Khronos GroupThe Khronos Group has announced the new Streaminput working group, which will create an open and platform-independent standard for accessing a wide array of input devices. Transgaming has volunteered to chair this new group.

The Streaminput working group’s goal is to create a cross-platform API that will provide applications for high-level semantic to low-level device management capabilities. The new API will support a framework that will handle both traditional devices, such as keyboards, mice, track pads, etc, as well as next generation devices coming down the pipe. The API will also provide for system-wide sensor synchronization for advanced multi-sensor applications, such as with augmented reality, and use Khronos’ extension mechanisms to allow the easy addition and support of new devices.

The decision by Transgaming to chair this working group is especially interesting in light of their recent announcements in the past year, such as the launch of GameTreeTV, an on-demand Smart TV gaming platform, and their collaboration with Softkinetic to bring gesture-based gaming to their gaming platform. It seems that Transgaming has a lot in store for the future of gaming and input devices.

Ubisoft released their third-quarter 2010-11 sales report yesterday, and within the report was a list of fourth quarter releases…including Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood for the PC and Mac. The release schedule is set between January and March 2011.

Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood for Xbox 360 and PS3 in November 2010, selling over 6.5 million units. Speaking to investors on a conference call yesterday, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that a new Assassin’s Creed game will be announced in May 2011. But it seems that they are not finished with the Brotherhood version yet, desiring to release the PC and Mac version before the end of the current quarter.

Transgaming’s Gametree Online has already released the Mac version of Assassin’s Creed II, so one can postulate that they are also going to release the Mac version of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. However, as always, there is no comment.

Grand Theft Auto 3Rockstar Games and TransGaming have released the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy for the Mac. The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy revisits the classic entries of the series and includes Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Grand Theft Auto III introduced a 3-dimensional Liberty City and a completely open and interactive world, filled with hidden challenges and innovative 3D gameplay. The immense map offered players a scope and depth never before seen in games. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City took a trip back in time and revisited the 1980s, complete with the era’s unique fashion and classic pop music, following Tommy Vercetti as he attempts to navigate the city’s tropical environment rife with gangsters and other seedy citizens. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas introduced San Andreas, the largest map of the series, which boasts three enormous cities. The story explores the life of Carl Johnson as he returns home to San Andreas after learning of the mysterious events surrounding a death in the family.

All three games feature thrilling, deep narratives, acerbic and witty dialogue, a cast of superbly voiced characters, a fleet of vehicles, and hours of music through in-game radio stations ranging from reggae, 80s pop, disco and hip-hop. The games also introduced a long running backlash from politicians and violence-in-games organizations, using
them as some of the premium examples of violence in the medium.

The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy has been ported to the Mac using Transgaming’s Cider technology. The Trilogy is now available for digital download off of Transgaming’s GameTree for Mac site, and will soon be available at retail stores throughout North America and Europe. Each game is available separately for $14.99, or you can get the entire trilogy for $39.99.

Also, for a limited time, if you purchase the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy, you can also get coupon worth 20% off a future purchase. You have until November 18th, though, to take advantage of that offer.
