The world of the 1950′s mafia has arrived. So you better really think about getting that copy of Mafia II: Director’s Cut that Feral Interactive announced will be coming to the Mac on December 1st. This version is a specially-created package that includes the standalone version of Mafia II and all of the game’s previously released add-on packs and downloadable content.

Mafia II is set in post-World War II America with an intense, tightly woven story that transports players into the dark and unforgiving world of organized crime. And by unforgiving, we mean “killing someone in a parking lot with meat cleavers” unforgiving. Players control Vito Scaletta, a Sicilian immigrant making a name for himself on the mean streets of fictional Empire Bay. Together with his childhood friend Joe Barbaro, Vito quickly becomes a trusted member of a powerful mob family, but quickly discovers that the life of a wise guy is as dangerous as it is glamorous.

If Vito is to rise from lowly foot soldier to made man, he must earn a reputation as an efficient enforcer, a skilled getaway driver and a reliable hit-man. The game aims to intersperse gripping narrative with visceral action that combines brutal shoot-outs, hand-to-hand combat, and realistic driving with accurately recreated cars from the period. A sense of time and place is evoked throughout by a soundtrack of hit songs from the 1940s and 50s.

Mafia II: Director’s Cut contains all the downloadable content and expansion packs for Mafia II, including arcade-style missions in The Betrayal of Jimmy and Jimmy’s Vendetta, where players take on the role of a contract killer. Players also get the chance to become Joe Barbaro in Joe’s Adventures, a separate eight-hour campaign which answers many of the questions that remain at the end of Mafia II: Director’s Cut.

Mafia II: Director’s Cut was originally developed by 2K Czech and published by 2K Games in 2010, and is the sequel to Mafia which sold more than two million copies. Mafia II: Director’s Cut is rated M for Mature by the ESRB, brushing up against that terrifying AO rating with such things as uncensored vintage Playboy centerfolds and the word F%&ck spoken 200 times (yeah, someone actually counted, apparently).

Minimum system requirements include:

Feral Interactive has today announced that critically acclaimed Action-RPG video game Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be released for the Mac in winter 2011/12. Developed by Eidos-Montreal and published by Square Enix for game consoles and PC, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a prequel to the legendary Deus Ex.

Set in 2027, Deus Ex: Human Revolution immerses players in a world where amoral corporations market biomechanical modifications that blur the boundary between man and machine. The player controls former SWAT commander Adam Jensen who has been forced to undergo cybernetic augmentations after a terrorist attack on Sarif Industries, the biotech company where he works as security chief.

To find those responsible, the player must explore the full potential of Adam’s augmented body and develop it to suit their playing style. Every situation can be approached in countless different ways, either by focusing on one of the four pillars of gameplay – combat, stealth, hacking and social – or by deploying an artful combination of all four. As they progress, players will be able to “purchase” new augmentations or upgrade existing ones to manipulate Adam’s body into their perfect machine.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has received praise from many critics for the open-ended nature of the game and the weight of conversations on the outcome of events. Judgments made by the player in whether to upgrade, hack a computer, or hide in the shadows rather than open fire have a direct impact on future gameplay.

Feral has stated that pricing, system requirements and a more precise release date will be announced later this year. However, this marks a different strategy in marketing for Feral, who previous to this tended to announce games very close to the intended release date. The release date for this game could be around three months or closer to 15 months (Feral assured me it would be Winter of 2011 or 2012), and yet we have learned about the game now. We definitely look forward to more tidbits of information, from screenshots and trailers, to interviews and maybe even developer diaries, to keep us drooling while we wait.

In the meantime, you can get more info about the PC version at the official Deus Ex: Human Revolution site and their facebook page.
