Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami Relief Efforts

POPCAP GAMES
UPDATE: PopCap announced that they were able to raise in excess of $200,000 during this sale for donation. The monies are being passed along to the International Red Cross for use in their ongoing efforts to provide food, shelter, medicine and other essentials to those suffering from the devastation in Japan.

Announced that it is discounting the prices of the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad adaptations of all of its games including Bejeweled, Bookworm, Chuzzle, Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies for 48 hours to raise funds for earthquake-stricken Japan. Partnering with the Red Cross, PopCap will donate all of its revenues from the sale, which begins Saturday March 19 at 12:01 a.m. PDT and ends at midnight PDT on Sunday March 20. The price of each iPhone and iPod touch title is reduced to US99 cents during that time, while the iPad adaptations are reduced to US$1.99. Consumers can purchase the games via the Apple App Store or by going to PopCap.com.

MASTIFF GAMES
Open letter from Bill Swartz of Mastiff Games:

I hope that you will join Mastiff and me personally in helping Japan’s recovery. In addition to the funds that Mastiff and I are personally contributing already, Mastiff pledges that for every 100 people who like us on Facebook between now and the end of April, Mastiff will donate $100 to the Red Cross for Japan relief, up to $25,000.

EVE ONLINE
UPDATE: The PLEX for Good: Japan drive has come to an end. During this drive players have donated a total of 2497 PLEX through 665 contracts and 19.6 billion ISK. In total, 2549 PLEX were collected, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross in the name of “EVE Online Community.” The drive raised $44,607.50 USD by players during the two week period.

CCP, publishers of EVE Online, has begun a “PLEX for Good: Japan” effort to help those currently suffering unimaginable hardship following the earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011. PLEX for Good is a charitable program initiated by the players of EVE Online that has allowed them to donate in-game currency to be “reverse redeemed” by CCP (through the PLEX system) into real-world currency donated on their behalf to relief organizations. Beginning March 14, 2011 and ending March 31, 2011 at 23:59 UTC, CCP will be accepting PLEX donations for PLEX for Good: Japan. Each donation will be converted into cash currency and donated to the Red Cross.

APPLE
Apple is helping in the relief effort by taking donations through iTunes for the American Red Cross. 100% of the donations you give will be sent to the American Red Cross. You can donate in increments of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, and $200. Note that you will not get an acknowledgment from the American Red Cross, so we don’t know how this will effect tax claims of your donation.

ZYNGA
Social game publisher Zynga has enabled in-game donations to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief effort through virtual good buying in Zynga games like FrontierVille, FarmVille and CityVille. 100% of the virtual goods purchase prices will be donated to the relief effort. Zynga is partnering with Save the Children to raise money for its Japan Earthquake Tsunami Children Emergency Fund. Altruistic players can contribute by buying designated virtual goods like a sweet potato crop in CityVille, a Kobe cow in FrontierVille, radishes in FarmVille and a royal flush for Zynga Poker.
