Aspyr Wants Mac Gaming Hub With GameAgent 2.0

Aspyr has big changes in store for GameAgent. The online game store for Mac and PC games is scheduled for an upgrade to 2.0 in September. Aspyr intends on turning GameAgent into a Mac Gaming Hub with services aimed at increasing the exposure of Mac gaming and make the game discovery process easier.

Currently, GameAgent has 94 Mac games on its service, including information about each game’s system requirements, pricing, ESRB ratings, etc. Aspyr will launch GameAgent 2.0 with 150 Mac games to start, and intends on adding more over time. Users will find the same game information as before, but Aspyr is adding an enhanced browsing and filtering feature to increase gamer ability to find just the game they are looking for. No details about how this feature will work has been released yet.

Another interesting feature is the Mac Match. This one will compare a user’s Mac system profile against a game’s system requirements, providing a quick way for a gamer to find out which games will work on their Mac. A user’s system profile will be pulled from their GameAgent account. However, one painful note for those who already have accounts on GameAgent is that you’ll have to create new ones once GameAgent 2.0 is launched.

This is because all old accounts will be deleted in the process of updating the system. Due to technical limitations, Aspyr says, there is no way to retain this information to be implemented into the updated GameAgent system. Aspyr swears, however, that this will not in any way interfere with purchases, either before or after the launch. Anyone can still check on the status of an order using the findmyorder feature.

There are many other features the new site will be adding, such as a price comparison tool, Deal Alerts, User Reviews, and something called custom Collections…you can read more about it on their GameAgent 2.0 FAQ. More information will also be revealed over the coming weeks. They urged Mac gamers to pay attention to their Twitter feed and Facebook page for more information. We’ll also update as we get more info.
