AppIdol Contest Winner Announced!
After 6 weeks of vigorous competition, the winner of the iPhoneAppCafe App Idol contest has finally been revealed. Eric Egong won the grand prize with his idea for Boom!erang against some stiff competition. Eric wins a prize of $1,000, courtesy of us at iGame Radio, and gets his app developed by leading development company Locassa as well as continued mentoring from the App Idol judging panel and exposure on iPhoneAppCafe, iGame Radio, iPhone Life Magazine, and numerous other partner sites.
Boom!erang is intended to be a game that is simple to learn but hard to master. Basically, you’ll be flicking your boomerang on the screen against your targets who then try to dodge the incoming boomerangs, run from it, or even counter it by throwing another object. We can definitely see multiplayer potential in this game, both hotseat and online. But, as Eric Egong stated about the game, “be careful not to hit yourself!”
Of the 11 finalists chosen, almost all were games. This is not surprising, considering that when you take a look at the iTunes App Store, for example, a vast majority of the apps you see are games. And of the games chosen in the contest, many where unique and original in idea, implementation, or gameplay.
We’ll post a future article reviewing each one of them. Also, we’ll be interviewing the winner, talking to him about how he came up with the idea and created the video. We may even turn it into a developer diary!
We at iGame Radio would like to congratulate Eric on his hard work for coming up with this idea and developing the video to market it. And we can’t wait to review it, either! iPhoneAppCafe also mentions that due to the popularity of the contest, they’re considering making this an annual event. Hmmm…we wonder what might happen with all of those OTHER apps…
