Insurgency 2 Seeks To Continue Popular Half-Life 2 Mod’s Reign
If you’re a big fan of Half-Life 2 and all of its mods, then you will be happy to hear that a group of guys have formed a Kickstarter to put together Insurgency 2, the successor to the extremely popular Half-Life 2 mod released five years ago. That mod introduced the concept that allowed players to fight on either side of the conflict. Insurgency 2 is taking things a step further by defining a new sub-genre…high-speed tactical.
New World Interactive, the group behind Insurgency 2, wants you to think twice before running into the open and utilize techniques such as suppressive fire to best effect. Teamwork is your most important tool, they believe, and they’re working hard to make the game sharp and fast, while encouraging you to think and shoot more naturally. There’s an excellent behind the scenes video on the Kickstarter page that goes into a lot of detail about the ideas behind Insurgency 2.
Unlike the original mod, Insurgency 2 will be a full game for PC/Mac that includes at least two game modes, three player classes, two teams, seven maps, and multiple weapons and weapon types. The Kickstarter also includes stretch goals as well that will add Linux support, another game mode, and additional content if reached.
Launched on July 10, they have over 200 backers but have only hit about 20% of their initial goal of $180,000. They’ve released a trailer of almost ten minutes of gameplay as well as a music track to listen to. If you are into Rainbow Six or Day of Defeat, this might be your kind of game. We’ll keep you updated as this project progresses.
