iOS Game Watch: Cafe International, GoSum, Roads of Rome 2
Today we look at virtual strategy board game Cafe International, the Scrabble for mathematicians game GoSum, and Realore’s strategy/time management game Roads of Rome 2.
The legendary board game Cafe International is back for your iPhone and iPad. The basic premise of this award winning strategy game is finding the right place to put all of your guests in the Cafe International. Not all guests can be seated next to each other, and each nationality must be seated at their table. The visuals are very detailed and you can play solitaire or classic against the computer or hotseat against your friends. There’s help and clues available and you’ll probably need it…even playing against a rookie AI we had to work at it. Considering the detail, we recommend the extra screen real estate of the iPad for this one. Download it for $4.99 as a universal app.
Aaptek has released a Scrabble style game called GoSum that uses numbers and mathematical gameplay rather than word building. Using tiles for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as numbers, players take turns building off of each other’s equations in the style of a crossword puzzle. That way, there are no bothersome language problems between players no matter where they are from. The game allows 2-4 player games against anyone in the world. Though the game began as an educational tool, it has become much more entertainment than teaching. The iPhone/iPod Touch version is $0.99 and the iPad version goes for $2.99. There’s also a free version to check out, but be warned…the free version interrupts you regularly with full screen ads. We didn’t get much of a chance to see how the game worked before we got sick of them and turned it off.
Lastly, for fans of strategy/time management game Roads of Rome, rejoice! The sequel has arrived on the iOS. Roads of Rome 2 is now available as a universal app download. Caesar, governor of Rome, has been poisoned, and you must help the honorable general Victorius make his way to the kingdom of the gods to find the antidote. Build roads, create villages, leave offerings on the gods’ altars, and find the magic potion. One of the biggest reviews of the game is the graphics, which are enhanced with Retina support. Download the game for just $2.99.
