Endless Space Comes for PC, Mac Version Still Forthcoming

UPDATE: Mathieu Girard, CEO of Amplitude Studios, has updated us on the progress of the Mac version for Endless Space. Details are below, but Amplitude is aiming for a Mac release by the retail release of the game, August 24.

Iceberg Interactive’s sci-fi strategy game, Endless Space, released on various digital platforms for Windows PC, including Steam, yesterday. The promised Mac version, however, is still not here.

Originally, Endless Space was listed in the developer’s FAQ as coming for both Windows PC and Mac, but subsequent press releases only listed the PC version.

We asked about the upcoming release of the Mac version and was told that certain Mac compatibility issues had to be resolved before the Mac version could be released. “The Mac version will be coming out very soon,” said Steven Hopper of Reverb Communications. “It’s in Apple’s court right now.” are now awaiting an update directly from the developer with the most recent info. As soon as we get it, we’ll update this post.

UPDATE: Mathieu Girard, CEO of Amplitude Studios, has updated us on the progress of the Mac version for Endless Space: “So far we have been focusing on making the PC version a blast,” said Girard. “We hope to release the Mac version somewhere between now and the retail release (August 24).”

Endless Space has been dubbed by Amplitude Studios as a 4X game, for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate, and pits eight civilizations together in galactic conflict as they struggle for control of the galaxy. The game covers the space colonization age, where gamers can control every aspect of their empire: Economy, Diplomacy, Science and War. As one of eight unique civilizations, players must strive to control the entire galaxy through trade and diplomacy or technological advancements and strategic warfare. The game is currently available on Steam for Windows PC for $29.99.
