While the rest of the world, and OSes, wait, we Mac gamers in North America get the first taste of Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Gods & Kings, the expansion pack for Civilization V. Aspyr Media kicked it into high gear to get this expansion pack by 2K Games and Firaxis Games out the door. The pack enhances Civ V gameplay content, providing more ways to achieve world domination. And after reading about that 10 year long Civ II game, isn’t that what we all want? (s’cuss us while we shiver a moment.)
Gods & Kings will take players from founding the first Pantheon of the Gods and spreading religion across the world, to deploying spies in enemy cities to steal information and technology, and much more. The game features new types of city-states and land and naval combat systems. Nine is the rule, with nine new civilizations, nine new leaders, and nine new wonders.
Three original scenarios have been added, including the medieval period, the fall of Rome, and a Victorian steampunk scenario. Dozens of new units, buildings, technologies and resources have been included.
The fight for world domination has become more dynamic, featuring a reworked combat system and AI that places more emphasis on a balanced army composition. Additionally, the navy is now split into two different ship types, melee and ranged, making coastal cities vulnerable to a surprise naval attack. And if diplomacy or espionage is your tool of choice, you can establish embassies at foreign courts for either closer ties or clandestine operations (or both, as is more realistic).
Civ V: Gods & Kings is available for download for the Mac for just $29.99, but will require the original Civilization V to play. Grab it from the Aspyr GameAgent store or the Mac App Store for $29.99.
