If you’re a fan of the old 60′s and 70′s car chase shows, then you’ll probably want to grab a hold of Driver San Francisco Deluxe Edition for the Mac. Released by GameTreeMac this week, this is the latest in the Driver action driving game series by Ubisoft that let’s you race around San Francisco as though you were truly Starsky and Hutch. And if you don’t know who they are, you better get ready to start trudging up that hill both ways to school, boy!

Now that we have that joke out of the way, you can settle down to some good quality racing around as John Tanner, chasing after crime boss Charles Jericho. Seems that Tanner has acquired the ability now to shift from car to car, taking control of the car’s driver. Tanner must race around the City by the Bay to bring Jericho down in a story of revenge and high-speed pursuits. The game sports over 200 kilometers of road network, including the Golden Gate Bridge, and along iconic locations through San Francisco. Shifting apparently allows you to see into the minds of the people you shift into, giving you a unique perspective on the story each time.

More than 120 vehicles are available for you to race around and crash into things. Yes, you can now CRASH things with your cars. Imagine that 1963 Aston Martin all in pieces on the ground. Oh, stop crying.

Along with the Aston Martin, the Deluxe Edition includes the 1972 Lamborghini Miura and 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 in the multiplayer portion. Multiplayer features 11 different online modes as well. You can even record your best stunts and chases with the Film Director replay to edit and share.

The system requirements are:

  • Mac OS X 10.6.8, 10.7.2 or higher
  • Intel Core 2 Duo or better
  • 2 GB RAM or higher
  • At least 11 GB of free hard drive space
