Man continues running from tentacles as rComplex is re-imagined

Running games are an ever popular genre to release these days, with only a tiny number of the released doing it well. So we’re happy to see the 2009 running game rComplex survive the ugly masses with a re-imagined release in February for iOS, Android, PC, and Mac.

Developed by indie veterans Roger Hicks and Brian Terwilliger of EVENT Games and published by InterWave Studios, rComplex has gone through a makeover using Unity 3D as its base. Fans will return to the shadowy world where the running man races against an ever-approaching darkness which never rests, committed to its deadly pursuit. Playing as the running man, players’ must use dexterity and perseverance to survive…with a little bit of firepower thrown in for good measure. You’ll dodge obstacles while constantly moving forward, keeping ahead of the monstrous tentacles that give chase. Cthulhu for the win!

The developers have decided that you won’t keep running forever, though. “You must evade its tentacle grasp for as long as possible,” said Igor Raffaele, general manager of InterWave Studios, “until you can piece together the events that led to your current situation. With no gimmicks to distract from the intuitive control system, rComplex is all about survival and unveiling the mystery.”

rComplex mixes bold contrasts with color-coded objects to create an enhanced visual style. An intuitive control design has been implemented to avoid clumsy control mechanics. The game includes seven environments with varying challenges, such as motorbikes zooming on devastated highways and tense claustrophobic runs through dilapidated factories. Exclusive items, unlockable achievements for flawless runs and low death counts will provide story and bragging rights.

The HD iOS version of the game will be released in February, with Android, PC, and Mac versions released later in the year. In the meantime, check out the trailer for the game below!
