[Podcast] Ep 142: EVE Online Crucible, Apple snubs ESRB, Holiday Wishes
December 1, 2011 · Posted in Podcasts
Host Omaha Sternberg goes it alone, covering the release of the EVE Online Crucible expansion, Apple’s snubbing of the ESRB, and holiday game wishes. Plus, much more!
What’s inside this episode:
- Host Omaha Sternberg talks about the week’s news in Mac and iOS gaming. EVE Online Crucible released yesterday with over 50 new features, including four new ships, graphical updates, a scalable UI, time dilation for ease of large scale ship combat, and many others. The entire expansion was based on community feedback in the forums but Omaha wonders if CCP hit the mark with this expansion. Do players feel that they got heard? What do you think is the direction the next expansion will take?
- Torchlight II has been delayed. Citing the need to get the game right and run a beta, Runic Games has pushed the game release out, probably till 2012. Most of the fans are understanding, but is Runic spending too much time on the polish?
- Apple and Google have decided to ignore the new ESRB mobile ratings: is this good or bad? Omaha explores the benefits and disadvantages of such a move.
- Another Humble Bundle is out. The Humble Introversion Bundle contains four Introversion games plus source code and three other Indie games if you beat the average price. A lot of bundling has been going on this year. How much is too much?
- Omaha mentions some seasonal events that you might want to take advantage of: Free Elfster app for iPhone/iPod Touch, for your Secret Santa wishlist needs. US Marine Corp Toys for Tots. Send through a local campaign, or send via the ECA. Tripwire Interactive is offering Killing Floor for free on Steam, December 8 through December 11. The Steam Daily Wishlist Giveaway; each day 10 people will win the top 10 games on their Steam wishlist. The Giveaway begins December 1st and will continue into the holiday season.
- Results of two polls over the past month: “Are you disappointed that Rage isn’t coming to Mac?” and “Who’s your favorite character from Batman: Arkham Asylum?”
