Torchlight II delayed

Torchlight II logoRunic Games has announced that the release of Torchlight 2 has been delayed. Runic boss Travis Baldree announced on the company’s website that, due to a desire to ensure “quality and polish” and include a small beta, the game release date will be pushed back.

Baldree acknowledged the original Torchlight, though released quickly, had experienced its own series of issues that some additional development time would probably have resolved. “We didn’t have the resources at the time to give Torchlight that treatment,” said Baldree.

“Right at this moment though,” he continued, “we do have those resources for the sequel, and we feel strongly that we should apply them to make this the best game we can make and hopefully one that you’ll enjoy and continue to want to play in the future. We’ve probably had 18 months of full development time on it so far – not excessively long yet, as far as that goes. The amount of time we need to take it the rest of the way is relatively small.”

A thread within the Runic Games forum regarding the delay shows most fans are understanding of the postponement. However, the biggest concern seems to be the impact on sales if the game is released after Diablo III. We contacted Runic Games regarding how long the delay might be, but did not hear back from them as of the time we posted this article. We’ll keep you updated as we get new info.
