uDevGames 2008 contest is on!
I had been hearing about this from back in September as a possibility, but hadn’t heard much since then, and was unable to keep up with the forum thread on iDevGames. I’m happy to announce that the uDevGames contest is a go!
For those of you unfamiliar with the uDevGames contest, in a nutshell developers create a game from scratch to complete in three months. Then games submitted to the contest are voted on by peers and the public at large. Prizes are awarded, and games are demonstrated at the MacWorld Mac OSX Arcade.
The official start of the contest was December 2nd, but the registration deadline isn’t until January 18th, so you’ve got plenty of time if you want to enter the contest. There is a small entry fee. Your game and source code have to be entered by March 2nd, and voting begins on March 3rd. We’ll know who wins on March 12.
This is a damn fine contest that really helps out the community. Not only does it allow both newbie and veteran coders and artists to stretch their potential, but all source code (that isn’t commercial, say, from a commercially used game engine) is then published to the community.
