Spore Install…Hell Awaits You With Big Sharp Pointy Teeth

I have opened my copy of Spore, and am in the process of installing it. Or rather, I should say I have been in the process of installing it for the past hour. Big sharp pointy teeth doesn’t begin to describe the “fun” I’ve been having already.

First, there was the joy of opening the package. Sealed on both the top and bottom of the box (I guess so as to make sure that the game didn’t accidentally “slip out” when someone picked it up), I had to cut both seals. Then I had to remove the seal on the game container itself.

Once done, I then popped the DVD into my trusty MacBook Pro. I double-clicked on the DVD icon, then double-clicked on the install icon. I went through the process of reviewing the EULA. Hilarity ensued as I realized that EA chose not to inform said user of how many installs said user could install, or how many computers said user could install this software onto, but threatened the hounds of hell upon said user if said user installed on more computers or more times than EA told them they could. Apparently EA believed that I could use my psychic powers to find out this information some how. Or do a whole lot of Googling (which I did).

I clicked upon the “agree” button for the EULA (even though I, in fact, didn’t really agree that this EULA was appropriate…I’ll accept it to do the review). The icon disappeared, and I was left wondering whether anything installed. Nothing happened. Suddenly, my Mac informed me that I had three pieces of software I should install. Spore did absolutely nothing.

As I type this, I am downloading my updates to Leopard. I tried to install Spore again, and received the same result, so apparently Spore has decided that I must have the latest OS in order to do the install. I’ll update as this moves forward (later this evening, as I have a meeting to go to in a short bit).
